Meghan Bouwens was instrumental in Baruch’s 2-1 week, and earns Player of the Week honors for her efforts. Bouwens averaged 16.3 points and 11.3 rebounds as the Bearcats (8-3; 1-0 CUNYAC) placed third in the Grand Canyon Classic in Phoenix before returning home to defeat DeSales (Pa.).
At Southwestern College in Phoenix, Baruch lost to Wisconsin-Oshkosh 85-67 in the opener as Bouwens hit for a double-double with 17 points and 12 rebounds. A night later in the consolation game, a 73-49 drubbing of Goucher (Md.), she added 18 points with seven rebounds and a pair of blocks to be named to the All-Tournament team.
Upon returning to New York, Bouwens led the charge with 14 points and seven rebounds in a 72-55 defeat of DeSales.
On the season, Bouwens is the Bearcats’ leading scorer with 15.1 points per game, while averaging 9.4 caroms per contest, second best.
Baruch has a brief three-game road trip upcoming, with games at Hunter on Wednesday and John Jay on Friday.
