For the second time in as many weeks, Frances Lyons of Brooklyn College is the CUNY Athletic Conference Player of the Week. This past week, Lyons led the Bulldogs to a pair of wins, extending the team’s winning streak to five consecutive games. BC (6-3; 2-0 CUNYAC) beat St. Joseph’s of Brooklyn 77-46 and Bard College 82-55. For the week, Lyons averaged 24 points and 9.5 rebounds. More impressively, she shot 81% from the field on the week, converting 21 of her 26 shots, as she recorded 48 total points in 44 minutes played.
At St. Joe’s, Lyons recorded 20 points with nine rebounds and a pair of steals in just 18 minutes of play. The 31-point margin of victory is the team’s largest of the season.
Days later, Lyons led all scorers with 28 points, while adding 10 rebounds, four blocks and four steals. More astonishingly, she converted 13 of her 14 shots on the day.
For the season, Lyons has improved her scoring average to 17.8 points per game, the second highest average in the conference. Her 11.2 rebounds per game are the fourth highest total in the league, while her 56.7 % shooting percentage (66 of 117 from the floor) is the highest total in the CUNY Athletic Conference.
The Bulldogs, who have won six of the last seven games, are off for the remainder of the calendar year, and will participate in the NYU Holiday Festival on January 2-3, 2010.
