York College split a pair of home games last week, and was led by the Player of the Week Marcel Esonwune. As the Cardinals lost 86-65 to Rutgers-Newark before topping New Jersey City University 68-60, the Nigerian big man poured in 31 points, grabbed 28 rebounds, and blocked 10 shots against the two NJAC opponents.

Against Rutgers-Newark, Esonwune converted five of his nine shots, and added four of six free throws to total 14 points.  He altered six shots while grabbing 13 rebounds as well. Against NJCU, he totaled 17 points, four blocks, and 15 rebounds.

On the season, the preseason All-American is the only CUNY Athletic Conference player to average a double-double, chipping in 17.0 points (fifth highest in the league) and 15.2 rebounds (tops in the league).

A year ago, he averaged 18.2 points and 12.0 rebounds per game.

York (5-5; 1-0 CUNYAC) will take a break during the holidays and prepare for January 2, when the Cardinals travel to Virginia for the Christopher Newport Tournament.
