Pavel Buyanov led a contingent of College of Staten Island swimmers to the USA Swimming/AT&T Short Course Nationals last week in Federal Way, Wash., and came away as the CUNY Athletic Conference Swimmer of the Week.
The three-time NCAA National Champion advanced to the finals in the 100-yard breaststroke, where his time of 56.08 placed him 22nd overall. This time surpassed the NCAA’s “A” cut list, ensuring him a trip to the NCAA’s in the spring.
His 200-breaststroke time of 2:04.89 placed him 34th overall in that event. This time broke the provisional cut time, which allows him to be considered for the NCAA’s in the event.
CSI next takes to the pool over the weekend at Ramapo College.
