Jovan Deare made an immediate impact for Medgar Evers College (1-2; 0-0 CUNYAC) to start the 2009-10 season. The freshman averaged 12.6 points and eight rebounds as the Cougars lost at Polytechnic 89-83 before finishing in second place in Oswego State’s Max Ziel Tournament.
At Polytech, Deare recorded 19 points in his first collegiate contest. At Oswego, he led all rebounders with 11 and added 12 points as MEC defeated Morrisville 62-48. In the championship game, an 80-54 loss to the hosts, he recorded seven points and six caroms.
Medgar Evers hosts Pratt tonight at 7:00 p.m. in the home opener.
