Jovan Deare repeats as CUNY Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week after leading Medgar Evers College (3-3; 0-0 CUNYAC) to a 123-45 win over Pratt and a third place finish in the Western Connecticut State Classic.
Against Pratt, the freshman recorded 16 points and as many rebounds over the intra-borough rival. Deare was one of six players to score in double figures, and he led all players with his 16 rebounds.
At West Conn, Union (N.Y.) College beat upended MEC in the opener, despite Deare’s 14 points, seven rebounds and three assists. In the consolation game, a 80-72 win over Eastern Nazarene, he posted another double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds.
Deare is second on the team in scoring with 13.8 points per game, good enough for 14th in the Conference. His 9.8 rebounds are fourth best in the league, while his 2.8 steals are second.
Medgar travels to Baruch on Tuesday in the CUNY Athletic Conference opener for both schools.
