Off to a strong start is Shantee Goggins of Medgar Evers, who is this week’s CUNY Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week. MEC (2-4; 0-0 CUNYAC) finished second at the St. Elizabeth Thanksgiving Tournament by beating UMass-Boston 55-51 before falling to the host CSE 69-54 in the title game.
In the opening round against UMass-Boston, Goggins scored 15 points and grabbed five rebounds to help push the Cougars to the title tilt. In that championship game, she chipped in 12 points with six boards.
On the season, Goggins is fifth on the team in scoring, averaging 7.8 points per game while averaging 31 minutes as a starter.
Medgar Evers opens the conference portion of the schedule on Tuesday, December 1, as the Cougars travel to Baruch for a 5:30 p.m. contest.
