Perhaps the most dominating offensive player in the CUNYAC, Floriana Garo, is this week’s Player of the Week. The City College of New York (19-9; 7-1 CUNYAC) won three of its five matches last week, led by Garo’s attack. The Beavers lost to Baruch and Richard Stockton Colleges in straight sets, before beating Mt. Alousius in three, Whittier (Calif.) in five, and Clark (Mass.) University in three.

Garo hit .406 for the week, totaling 92 kills on 180 attempts against only 19 errors. Additionally, she tallied 52 digs, six service aces, and five blocks.

In the conference matchup with Baruch, Garo recorded 12 of the team’s 27 kills on the afternoon. She added five digs and a solo block in the loss.

In Day One of the CCNY Invitational, the Beavers split, but Garo rose to the occasion. Against Stockton, she had 13 kills with six digs, while against Mt. Aloysius she had 18 kills on just 26 attempts, a .692 hitting percentage.  Day Two saw a CCNY sweep, with Garo leading the way. In a tough five-set win over Whittier, the Albanian native had 34 kills and 17 digs. She followed that with another double-double, 15 kills and 15 digs, to go with her five service aces against Clark.

For the season, Garo is hitting .384.
