Four weeks have produced four different winners of the Brine® Player of the Week, with York’s Elysee Vilsaint earning the honor. York (3-5; 3-0 CUNYAC) lost a tough 3-2 non-conference match to St. Joseph’s of Long Island before dealing a pair of shut out wins against conference foes Brooklyn and Hunter, 4-0 and 2-0 respectively.
Vilsaint, the conference Player of the Year from a year ago, had a hand in six of the nine goals the Cardinals scored last week. Against St. Joe’s, he setup both Cardinal goals. His crossing pass allowed Leslie Ennever to score York’s first goal, then he fed Jaime Hay in the middle of the second half for York’s second tally.
Against Brooklyn, Vilsaint opened the scoring in the 37th minute on a pass from Fernando Rueda, then notched his second goal of the game in the 76th minute. Against Hunter, Vilsaint’s pass to Sergio Restrepo allowed York to take a 1-0 lead in the waning moments of the first half. In the 53rd minute, Hay sent the ball towards Vilsaint, who neatly headed the ball past the keeper for the 2-0 final.
Vilsaint leads the Cardinals in both goals (four), assists (three), points (11), and shots (22), while pnly playing in five games. At 3-0, York stands atop the Conference standings.
