Ruth Reyes made an immediate impact for City College, as the freshman earns Rookie of the Week laurels in her first week of competition. CCNY went 3-1 to open the 2009 season, playing all games at the Hartwick College/Holiday Inn Tournament. The Beavers swept Hartwick, SUNY Plattsburgh, and Husson by identical 3-0 scores in Pool A, before falling to St. Lawrence in the championship game 3-2.
Hitting opposite Player of the Week Floriana Garo, Reyes pounded 46 kills with 14 errors on 88 attempts, a .364 hitting percentage. In her first ever collegiate game, Reyes hit .435 against Hartwick with 12 kills and two errors on 23 attempts. In the championship match against SLU, she knocked 22 kills while adding a pair of digs.
