Floriana Garo of City College, returning for her senior year, earns the first Player of the Week award as she led the Beavers to a 3-1 week to begin the 2009 season. Playing in the Hartwick College/Holiday Inn Tournament, CCNY swept Hartwick, SUNY Plattsburgh, and Husson by identical 3-0 scores in Pool A, before falling to St. Lawrence in the championship game 3-2.
Garo was named to the All-Tournament team, as she notched 64 kills with only 10 errors on 110 attempts, hitting a whopping .491. She added 34 digs, six assists, and eight blocks. She hit double digits in kills in each game, with a season-high 26 kills in the championship match. She added 14 digs with three assists and five block assists against SLU. Against Plattsburgh, she recorded five aces with seven digs to go with her 14 kills.
