Sally Nnamani will certainly leave her mark on the CUNY Athletic Conference when she graduates from Lehman College this spring. The Hospital for Special Surgery Scholar-Athlete of the Month for February, Nnamani, a senior women’s basketball player from Warwick, N.Y., is on track to earn her BA in political science with a 3.32 overall grade point average.
As a basketball player, the month of February was very good to Nnamani. For the month, she averaged 12.6 points and 9.3 rebounds per game. More importantly, she was voted by the head basketball coaches in the league as the 2009 CUNYAC Player of the Year for the third time in as many seasons. She led the Lightning to the CUNYAC/Con Edison Basketball Championships title game for the third consecutive season. Lehman then advanced to the ECAC Metro NY/NJ Region Tournament, where the Lightning again advanced to the championship game.
More importantly, she concludes her career with 2,113 career points, the second most ever scored by a player in the CUNY Athletic Conference.
But there is more than basketball in Nnamani’s life. Despite a career goal of playing basketball professionally, she wants to use her political science degree to work at the United Nations. At Lehman, she is a part of the student senate and has been instrumental in the development of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
Juggling practices, games, classes, and homework has not been easy for Nnamani, but she keeps everything in perspective. During the fall term, she helped organize the Lightning’s breast cancer walk to raise awareness and funds. All the while, she kept up with her studies, posting a 3.675 GPA, qualifying her for Dean's List.
With her dedication and determination, Sally Nnamani truly defines the HSS/Scholar-Athlete.
