Earning Player of the Week honors is Shakimba Pierre, who averaged 14.3 points, 17 rebounds and 4.3 steals per game as Medgar Evers went 2-1. The Cougars (9-11; 4-5 CUNYAC South) won a pair of home games over City Tech 62-34 and Hunter 60-44 before losing at Staten Island 84-76.
Against City Tech, the Paul Robeson graduate scored 10 points, grabbed 17 rebounds and had seven steals as Medgar Evers rolled. Against Hunter, Pierre scored nine points and added eleven rebounds, but she saved her top performance for Staten Island. Against the Dolphins, she made nine of her 15 shots en route to 24 points. She also grabbed 23 rebounds and had three steals against CSI.
This week, Medgar Evers hosts Polytechnic on Monday then heads to face Brooklyn College on Wednesday. One final game during the week will be on Friday against York.
