Player of the Week honors go to York’s Marcel Esonwune, who averaged 17.5 points and 13.5 rebounds per game as the Cardinals swept a pair of CUNYAC games. York (5-11, 2-2 CUNYAC South) beat Medgar Evers 85-64 and Staten Island 64-47.
Against Medgar Evers, the native Nigerian scored 19 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, six of them on the offensive end. He made eight of his nine shots in that game. Against CSI, he was a defensive stalwart, blocking a career high six shots and grabbing three steals in addition to his 16 points and 16 rebounds. For the two games, 16 of his 27 rebounds came off the offensive glass. He now has recorded double-doubles in five consecutive games.
York travels to face City Tech on Wednesday and John Jay on Friday.
