The Rookie of the Week is Ashley Straughn, a 6’1” center from CCNY. The Beavers (9-4, 2-2 CUNYAC North) swept a trio of road games, beating John Jay 55-48, City Tech 82-25 and St. Joseph’s (Conn.) 73-52. A large part of the team’s success was Straughn, who averaged 13 points, 11 rebounds and three steals.
Against John Jay, her defensive prowess was evident, as she grabbed 10 rebounds with two blocked shots and three steals. At City Tech, the Freeport native connected on nine of her ten shots en route to a 21 point performance. She added 12 rebounds, three blocked shots and six steals. She finished her week with 13 points and eleven rebounds at St. Joe’s.
CCNY hosts Baruch on Wednesday night at 5 p.m. and Staten Island on Saturday at noon.
