Nicholas Hamilton-Lopez made an immediate impact on the York College Cardinals (3-11, 0-2 CUNYAC South) last week and earned conference Player of the Week honors in the process. The transfer from Division II Pfeiffer University averaged 29 points at the Captain Shootout played in Newport News, Va. In the opening round, his season debut with the Cardinals, the Woodside, Queens, native scored 31 points as York defeated previously unbeaten Millikin (Ill.) University 88-68. In the championship contest, Hamilton-Lopez scored 27 points to lead all scorers as York lost to host Christopher Newport 71-70. His 58 combined points set a tournament record for points in a single tournament as he was named to the All-Shootout team.
York hosts two conference games this week, with Medgar Evers College on Wednesday and Staten Island on Friday.
