Vaughn Mason earns this week’s CUNYAC Player of the Week award by leading John Jay College to a 2-1 week, including the team’s first two wins of the season. On average, the junior forward contributed 18 points, 7.7 rebounds and 2.7 assists each game, as the Bloodhounds (2-6 overall, 0-2 CUNYAC North) won at USMMA 71-63, beat Rutgers-Newark in overtime 75-68 and lost to Ramapo 84-77. Mason recorded double-doubles in the first two contests of the week, with 17 points and ten rebounds at Kings Point and 20 points and ten caroms against Rutgers-Newark. Against Ramapo, he scored 17 points, but contributed five assists to go with his three rebounds. John Jay travels to Newport Beach, Calif., at the end of the month for their next games.
