Monica Calungcagin was a major key to the Hunter Women's Tennis team this season helping guide the squad to a perfect 19-0 record.  The sophomore helped lead the Hawks to an automatic berth to the NCAA Championships as well as their seventh consecutive league title.

“ I'm honored to be recognized for my commitment to tennis and academics,” said Calungcagin. “Balancing life, school and sport is really what being a student-athlete is all about.  It's difficult at times but I try to live up to the expectations of representing myself, my family and Hunter College Athletics.”

The Nyack graduate finished the year with an outstanding 14-2 overall singles record and 7-1 in CUNYAC singles.  In addition, the #2 player boasted a perfect 8-0 league doubles record and 15-2 mark in overall doubles.

Calungcagin was named the CUNYAC Championships MVP for the second straight year as she avenged an earlier season loss to Kateryna Pylypyshyna in the finals.

The Nyack, NY native also played well against non-conference opponents dropping only one match on the year. The nursing major is just as impressive in the classroom, if not more, as she is maintaining a 3.827 GPA.  Calungcagin also serves on numerous college organizations including Hunter's chapter of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).

"Monica really devoted herself to time management and she has succeeded at mastering that skill,” said Hunter head coach Mel Kerper.  A dedicated athlete, Monica is just as committed if not more in the classroom.”
