No stranger to winning awards, junior Stella Rubina has been named the Hospital For Special Surgery Scholar-Athlete of the Month for October.
During her three years at Brooklyn College, Rubina has been a dominant player on the court and a wonderful student in the classroom. Rubina’s career #1 flight singles record is an astounding 25-2, including a 21-2 mark in CUNYAC competition.
The Tashkent, Uzbekistan native went 6-1 singles mark this past October was highlighted by her two #1 flight singles wins during the 2004 CUNYAC Tournament. She was the #1 flight singles 2002 CUNYAC runner-up and the 2003 champion, but could not defend her individual title in 2004 as the conference moved to a team format for the championships. Rubina also combined with teammate Belinda Cape to win the #1 doubles championship in 2003. Rubina was exceptional on that championship day in 2003 as she won two singles matches and a pair of doubles matches in just one day. Rubina has accumulated a 3.69 GPA and has been named a CUNYAC Scholar-Athlete in 2002 and 2003.
Stella’s has always strived to be perfect, whether it is in the classroom or on the court. Majoring in biology, Stella plans to attend medical school after she finishes her undergraduate work and become a doctor.
Brooklyn head coach Darlene Dillard had many superlatives for her top player, “Stella is a great all-around person whether on the court, in the classroom or on a personal level.”
