Brittany Smith
College of Staten Island
Senior with a 3.63 GPA in Psychology with a Minor in Disability Studies
Softball Outfielder from Staten Island, NY and St. John Villa High School
Brittany Smith has been named April's CUNYAC/Hospital for Special Surgery Scholar-Athlete of the Month. The outfielder for the College of Staten Island has made an major impact for the Dolphins both this season and throughout her career while maintaining a strong GPA in CSI's Psychology program.
"Everyone has really shaped me to be the player I am with their support over the four years," said Smith.
Academically, the senior has flourished at CSI. With a 3.63 GPA in Psychology while minoring in Disability Studies, Smith has been on her game both on and off the field. Since 2011, she has consistently been on the Dean's List and beginning in 2013, she became involved with CSI SAAC. She also is an internist at Staten Island University Hospital within their Occupational Therapy Department.
"I chose Psychology because I think the study of human behavior and mental processes is very interesting," said Smith.
Athletically, the Staten Island native has been everything the Dolphins hoped for. With her career now in the books, she owns the school records for career at bats, stolen bases, runs scored, and hits. During the month, she hit .361 with 28 stolen bases in 29 games. Over that span she scored a miraculous 39 runs and struck out just six times. For the month, the Dolphins went 22-7 including a stunning 11-1 in conference play. Arguably her best statistical game of the month came against Baruch. She went 4 for 6 with four runs scored, three RBIs, and five stolen bases.
With Smith graduating, this is a deserved farewell to one of the conference's best softball players.
