Stephanie Ho
Queensborough Community College
Sophomore with a 3.9 GPA in Nursing
Women’s Volleyball Libero from Queens, NY and Baruch High School

Stephanie Ho is CUNYAC/Hospital for Special Surgery Scholar-Athlete of the Month. The Lady Tigers’ libero is a proven star on the court and also sports an outstanding academic resume, making her an excellent representation of CUNYAC scholar-athletes.

A sophomore from Queens, NY, Ho has maintained an impressive 3.9 GPA as a nursing student through three full semesters at Queensborough Community College. Stephanie previously worked two years in a clinical home, working with other nurses and getting hands on experience. She also graduated from Stony Brook University with a Bachelor’s in Emergency and Critical Care. In 2013, Ho was named both a CUNYAC and a Region XV Academic All-American.

When asked how she balances the rigors of being a nursing major and being a star volleyball player, Ho said, “I get a lot of help from my coaches and teammates. Since I am one of the more mature, older people on the team I have a lot of experience with balancing classes and extracurricular activities.”

Her wisdom is something head coach Jason Demas entrusted her to spread to the other members of the volleyball team. “Ever since my coach named me a team captain I felt I had to step up as a team player and also guide my teammates at excelling in their studies and also in volleyball,” said Ho.

The sophomore has been the backbone of the Lady Tigers’ defense all season. She is described as a team leader both on and off the court, exemplified by being named one of Queensborough’s captains for 2014. She has been one of the best defensive players in the conference all year and was also voted as one of the top defenders in Region XV.

Ho had an impressive 230 digs during the month’s regular season contests to go along with 17 service aces. She only had 14 reception errors in October when she is served to on average 25-40 times a game. The Queensborough captain recorded close to 400 digs on the season, which is believed to be a single season school record.

Ho was named to the 2014 Region XV All-Star First-Team. She also earned CUNYAC tournament All-Star honors despite her team losing to the Hostos Caimans in the CUNYAC Championship game. In the tournament, Ho posted 13 digs and two service aces. Both CUNYAC and Region XV have given her recognition in their annual Sportsmanship Awards.

After graduating from Queensborough, Ho hopes to get into NYU’s nursing accelerated program.
