CUNYAC/Hospital for Special Surgery Women’s Tennis Player of the Week

Yuliya Orkis has been named the CUNYAC/Hospital for Special Surgery Women’s Tennis Player of the Week for the second straight week and third time this season. Orkis recorded her 40th career singles victory against Baruch’s Allie Jackson-Hing this past week, as the three-time CUNYAC Player of the Year took home a 6-1, 6-1 win at #1 singles. Orkis’ career record now stands at 40-1 with her lone loss coming in the semifinals of the 2013 ITA/USTA Northeast Regional Championships. She is a perfect 20-0 in CUNYAC singles play.

Hayley Bester has been named the CUNYAC/Hospital for Special Surgery Women’s Tennis Rookie of the Week for the fourth straight week. The freshman had another solid week, going 2-1 in doubles and singles play. She won both her doubles and singles encounter against Oneonta. She then combined with Allie Jackson-Hing to beat Brooklyn’s top #1 doubles duo of Yuliya Orkis and Suraya Maenhout.

Staten Island Dolphins (3-3 Overall, 2-1 CUNYAC)

CSI fell to Kean and Hunter this week, and will be busy this week with three matches this week including stops at National Tennis Center to face John Jay on Monday and Baruch on Tuesday.
John Jay Bloodhounds (3-4 Overall, 1-2 CUNYAC)
Last Week (0-1 Overall, 0-1 CUNYAC)
The Bloodhounds lone match of the week was against Baruch College. John Jay fell 6-3. This week, the Bloodhounds have three conference matches against the College of Staten Island, Lehman College, and Hunter College.
Hunter Hawks (3-3 Overall, 2-0 CUNYAC)
Last Week (2-0 Overall, 2-0 CUNYAC)
The Hawks have won three consecutive matches after starting out the season 0-3. Last week they swept Rutgers-Newark 9-0 and took down CSI, the team that eliminated the Hawks from the CUNYAC Tournament last fall. The Hawks have seven players undefeated in CUNYAC play. This week the Hawks will look to remain unbeaten in CUNYAC play when they take on John Jay & York.
Baruch Bearcats (3-2 Overall, 2-0 CUNYAC)

The women's tennis team had a solid week in helping lead the Bearcats to a current 5-3 record and 3-1 in CUNYAC. This is the team's best record after eight matches in four years.
Brooklyn Bulldogs (4-2 Overall, 2-1 CUNYAC)

In their lone match of the week, the Brooklyn College Women's Tennis team defeated Baruch in a key CUNYAC match this past week. This week, the Bulldogs travel to Purchase (10/1) and then play host to Lehman (10/4).
York Cardinals (1-4 Overall, 0-3 CUNYAC)
Last Week (1-1 Overall, 0-1 CUNYAC)
York College's week started with their first home match of the season. Unfortunately, this match was a loss against Lehman college, leaving them still searching for that elusive first win. However, their fortunes changed rapidly as York, led by Joanne Ly and Danielle Dunn, won their match against the College of New Rochelle 6-3. This gave first-year head coach Gemma Alexander-Mozeak her first win of her York career. This upcoming week, York has two away matches as they face off against Sarah Lawrence College on Wednesday and CUNYAC foe, Hunter College on Saturday.
Lehman Lightning (0-3 Overall, 0-3 CUNYAC)
Last Week (0-2 Overall, 0-2 CUNYAC)
Lehman split a pair of matches last week, besting CUNYAC foe York, 9-0, before losing to NJAC power Kean, 8-1. Lynessa George went 2-0 in singles, and 1-1 in doubles action.
This week, Lehman plays at Ct. Joseph's of Brooklyn on Tuesday John Jay on Wednesday, and Brooklyn on Saturday.
