For the month of April, Stephanie Caravello of Brooklyn College has been named the CUNYAC/Hospital for Special Surgery Scholar-Athlete of the Month. This is the third time that the Brooklyn native has been named the CUNYAC Scholar-Athlete of the Month.
During the month of April, Caravello has competed in 23 games while batting an impressive .458 with 23 RBI, and 23 runs scored. Caravello also boasted an impressive .519 on base percentage and .611 slugging percentage. With those numbers, Caravello has led her team to a 17-7 overall 2014 mark, and a 8-2 record in CUNYAC play.
As a senior, Caravello holds a stellar 3.96 GPA while majoring in Exercise Science and minoring in health and nutrition. She has been named to the Dean's List every semester of her collegiate career, and has received a Brooklyn College Presidential Scholarship.
The four-year two-sport athlete has truly excelled in both swimming and softball. She was named a part of the 2013 Capital One Academic CoSIDA All-District NCAA D3 Softball Team. When described by her peers, Caravello has been "someone who always plays hard, respects the game and her opponents, and is never heard from in a negative manner."
Following her career at Brooklyn College, Caravello will be pursuing a graduate program in Physical Therapy beginning in the Summer of 2014. Caravello will be looking for a doctorate in the field and will likely be studying at SUNY Downstate.
Whether it be on the field, in the swimming pool, or in the classroom, Carvello always gives her maximum effort to succeed. This incredible trait of striving for success, is something that is respected by all of Caravello's classmates, teammates, and head softball coach Mike Ponsiglione, who called Caravello a "role model for younger teammates."
