Armin Garcia has been named HSS Scholar-Athlete of the Month of May 2013 for his outstanding performance. A Criminal Justice Major, Garcia has demonstrated great athletic ability while maintaining a 3.60 GPA in the classroom.
At the CUNYAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships, the freshman Jumper/Runner recorded a time of 15.01 seconds to win the gold medal in the Men’s 110m Hurdle. One week after his CUNYAC title, Garcia carried his performance to the NJCAA National Tournament, snagging another gold medal in the 110m Hurdle. He became one of three Kingsborough CC athletes to be named All-Americans. The Brooklyn native also figured among the Wave’s top performers in the Men’s Triple Jump (CUNYAC Silver Medalist), Shot Put (CUNYAC Gold Medalist), and the Men’s 400m Hurdle (CUNYAC CC 1st Place).
Only a freshman, Garcia has been awarded CUNYAC All-Star in Men’s Cross-Country, Men’s Indoor Track, and Men’s Outdoor Track. He was also named CUNYAC Scholar-Athlete of the Month with Honorable Mention in the month of January. Among the accomplishments, Garcia has also been named a 2013 NJCAA All-American for Outdoor Track & Field.
"I cannot say that it's been an easy task to keep up with school, Track, personal life and my naval career," Garcia said. "However, I really enjoy it all and at the end of the day not only does it build character, it keeps me happy and ultimately prepares me for what the future holds."
