Stephanie Caravello of Brooklyn College’s softball team, has been named as the CUNYAC/Hospital for Special Surgery Women’s Scholar-Athlete of the Month for March. The Exercise Science major with a 3.98 GPA is a leader both on the field and in the classroom.
The junior is a multi-sport athlete who also competes on Brooklyn’s Women’s Swimming and Diving team. Caravello has an accomplished resume that includes the April 2011 CUNYAC Scholar-Athlete of the Month honors.
“It's a great honor, I'm surprised. It feels great to be recognized and acknowledged for the hard work that I've put in this season," said Caravello. She added, "It's second nature to me when it comes to balancing school work and athletics. I've been doing it my whole life.”
During the Month of March, the first basemen started in all 15 games for the Bulldogs. The Brooklyn native hit safely in 11 games, posting a .375 (18-for-48) batting average with 11 runs scored, eight RBI’s, and six doubles. Caravello also had a .464 on-base percentage and a .500 slugging percentage. Brooklyn went 11-4 during this span, including going an undefeated 4-0 in the conference. In her last four games of March, the exercise science major went 10-for-13 (.769 batting average) with seven runs scored, four RBI’s, one double and three walks.
Caravello’s leadership and contributions have helped the team rebound from last season. Brooklyn is currently in first-place with an overall record of 11-4.
