Nicole Francomano, of Brooklyn College’s women’s basketball, has been named as the CUNYAC/Hospital for Special Surgery Women’s Scholar-Athlete of the Month for February. The sophomore has been noticed for excelling on and off the court.

As a freshman Francomano was named to the 2012 CUNYAC All-Tournament Team, and was recognized as a Second-Team All Star this year. Not only has the Staten Island native been noticed for having the top number of assists and assist-turnovers amongst CUNYAC athletes, she ranked as high as 30th in the national NCAA Division III rankings for her assist-turnover ratio.

“Nicole is one of those special student-athletes who is gifted in both the classroom and on the court,” said Women’s Basketball Head Coach Alex Lang. “I’ve had the privilege to coach her over the past two seasons and am proud to have her represent our program. I am delighted she was chosen for this award; she deserves it.”

During the month of February, the five-foot-six athlete made a memorable mark averaging 3.7 assists per game and 2.7 rebounds per game. Her numbers off the court have garnered attention as well. A speech pathology major, Francomano maintains a cumulative GPA of 3.8 and holds a place on Brooklyn College’s Dean’s List.

“I am excited to receive this award because I strive to succeed not only on the basketball court but in the classroom as well,” said Francomano. “It means a lot to be recognized for my hard work, but most of all I am proud to represent the Brooklyn College Women's Basketball team.”

A stark contributor to her team’s success, the sophomore has helped Brooklyn College to back-to-back CUNYAC runner-up finishes and two straight ECAC appearances.
