Paola Martinez has been named the CUNYAC/Applebee’s Female Athlete of the Week. Throughout her 15 sets played, the rookie contributed 42 kills, nine serving aces, and 91 digs to the Caimans’ effort. The 3-1 included a conference win that brings Hostos to a 2-0 conference record; good for a first place tie. Martinez began the week against Rockland with 13 kills and an outstanding 30 digs as Hostos came out victorious 3-2. She followed up that performance in a 3-1 victory over conference opponent BMCC. In that game, the freshman accumulated 11 kills, four serving aces, and another 28 digs. Continuing her dominant play against Ulster, the Caiman had a .462 hitting percentage while racking up eight kills, four serving aces, and 22 digs as the Caimans won 3-0. The week ended against Dutchess with 10 kills and 11 digs.
