John Jay College freshman, Ana-Lilia Diaz-Varela has been named the first CUNYAC/US Army Women's Cross Country Rookie of the Week for the 2012 season. Competing at the Baruch Invitational last Sunday at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx, Varela placed 8th overall and 7th amongst the 72 four-year college runners. She ran with a time of 29:33 resulting in the team placing 4th out of the 9 teams and 3rd out of CUNY schools.
