The City University of New York Athlete Conference in partner with the Hospital for Special Surgery named Steven Coniglio April’s Scholar Athlete of the month. The sophomore had an excellent month in every respect.

As a member of the Men’s Volleyball team he received his fourth CUNYAC/Con Edison Player of the Week award and was named a CUNAYC First Team All-Star. His 119 kills (3.22 per set) and .508 hitting percentage helped lead his team to a CUNYAC Championship and a berth into the inaugural NCAA Division III Men’s Volleyball Tournament.

Baruch won the first game of the inaugural tournament over Elms but would later fall to #1 seeded Springfield in the second round. At the NCAA Tournament, he added to his long list of accolades as he received the Elite 89 Top Academic Achievement Award. The award goes to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative average in the tournament.

“I am very grateful to those that bestowed this honor to me and I am very honored to receive it,” said Coniglio. “The month of April was exciting with winning the CUNYAC Championship, playing in the NCAA Tournament, and winning the Elite 89 Academic Award.”

Coniglio’s efforts off the court have led to other academic honors as he was named a CUNYAC Scholar-Athlete in 2011 and is a member of both the Phi Eta Sigma Honor Society and the Sigma Alpha Delta Honor Society. As an actuarial science major he boasts an impressive 3.87 major.
