For the month of February, the CUNY Athletic Conference has named Brooklyn College’s Lauren Plagainos Co-Scholar Athlete of the Month. The women's basketball player maintained a 3.5 GPA in her major and had impressive performances on the court as her team competed for the CUNYAC Championship in February.
Plagainos, a children studies major, made the 2012 CUNYAC First-Team All Star list after assisting her team to the #1 seed in the CUNYAC/Con Edison Women’s Basketball Championships. The Bulldogs ultimately lost in the title game however earned a berth to the 2012 ECAC Division III Metro Tournament where they got a first round win over SUNY Westbury. During the month of February, Plagainos started in all nine games for the Bulldogs, averaging 16.0 points on 44.7% (51-144) shooting from the field and 39.2% (31-79) shooting from three. She also averaged 5.1 rebounds and 1.2 steals per game as the team went 7-2 in the month of February. Plagainos also ranked first in the conference in three-point field goals made (2.7), second in three-point field goal percentage (37.8), eighth in field goal percentage (41.3) and 12th in scoring (12.1).
“I feel honored to be recognized for my hard work on and off the court,” said Plagainos.“I'm glad I can represent Brooklyn College with my studies and not just my athletic ability.”
