Prior to being spotted in the crowd at Medgar Evers last season, this week’s top rookie has never played basketball before. In week one of his first ever basketball season, Valin Williams has earned this week’s top rookie nod. During the Cougar’s 2-1 week, Williams averaged 8.3 rebounds with 3.3 points and 1.7 blocks per contest. In his first game ever with the Cougars, the freshman registered a total of seven rebounds with one assist and a steal in his nine minute effort against the Rutgers-Newark Scarlet Raiders (Nov. 15). The Brooklyn native registered more playing time during a matchup against Western Connecticut (Nov. 18), pulling down three rebounds and putting up two blocks. In his third career appearance, the rookie standout netted a total of ten points shooting 5 for 6 on the field with 15 rebounds and two blocks.
