Jenny Varughese proved to be a  fierce competitor in her first season on the women's basketball team.  During the final month of the season, the freshman improved her game, averaging 13.4 points, 5.5 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 2.8 steals per game.  She made 11 three-point field goals over those final 8 contests and scored a career-high 22 points versus New York City College of Technology on February 2nd

Head coach Alex Lang calls his point guard  "A competitor who will do what it takes to win."  Along with Jaclyn (Cavalcante), the duo make up a tough young backcourt that will only get better with experience."

Varughese is a member of the Brooklyn College BA-MD pre-med program and plans to become a doctor in the sports medicine field. The freshman from Staten Island is showing her competitive side in the classroom as well, earning a 3.93 GPA in her first semester at Brooklyn, a mark that she hopes to improve on.  When asked about the transition from high school to college, Varughese exudes confidence, "I just take it one step at a time and don't think about failure.  I knew I could do well both athletically and academically as long as I could balance my schedule."

For Varughese this is just the beginning as she will be facing a bigger work load in her second year in the program and will be preparing for the MCAT examination.  On the court Jenny will look to help her young team make a push toward the top of the CUNYAC.  She  finished 3rd in the conference in assists per game in 2004-2005 with 4.6 and was a one-time "Rookie of the Week".
