Hunter’s Claudia Chan has been named the CUNYAC/Hospital For Special Surgery Scholar-Athlete of the Month of January.  In the classroom, Chan has a cumulative GPA of 3.847, and the sophomore was named to the Hunter College Dean’s List for the Fall of 2004.

In the pool, the Fresh Meadows native claimed first place in six of her eight individual races in the month of January.  She won the 200 Individual Medley (2:45.74) and the 100 Butterfly (1:17.07) against Baruch on January 14.  She won the 500 Freestyle (5:57.45) versus Mount St Mary (5:57.45) and was also the runner-up in the 100 Freestyle and the 100 Butterfly (1:20.15).  In the final dual meet of the month against U.S. Merchant Marines, she won three individual events, including the 500 Freestyle (5:54.39), 100 Butterfly (1:07.56), and the 50 Butterfly (28.43)

Chan saved her best work for the 2005 CUNYAC Championships as she won all three of her individual races, led the Hawks to their fourth straight title and set two CUNY meet records. She clocked at new meet mark of 2:26.88 in the 200 Individual Medley, registered a new meet record of 5:54.46 in the 500-yard Freestyle and finished with a 1:06.53 in the 100-yard Butterfly. Chan was honored as the Most Outstanding Performer for the second straight year.
