StudentsFirst Rewards Winners Announced at MCU Park

Presented by Municipal Credit Union

The CUNY Athletic Conference announced the 2016-17 winners during CUNYAC StudentsFirst Rewards Night at MCU Park on Monday, June 26th. The night’s events were presented by the Municipal Credit Union. Christopher Todd of York College and Daniel Weiss of Brooklyn College were awarded the top prizes of free tuition for a year courtesy of Municipal Credit Union and CUNYAC. Eight additional winners received prizes, including various technology and CUNYAC prize packs. Each winner and a guest received tickets to watch the Brooklyn Cyclones take on the Hudson Valley Renegades from the MCU Suite at the ballpark.

“I was very excited to hear that I was the free tuition winner. Going into the fall this will be my last year in CUNY. I was just short of being able to get the Excelsior scholarship so this will help out a lot,” said this year’s top point getter, Christopher Todd.

The CUNY Athletic Conference started the StudentsFirst Rewards program as an initiative to create an immersive experience for students who attend CUNYAC tournaments or play in a CUNYAC/MCU Intramural Championships. To earn points, CUNY students must attend CUNYAC Championship venues. Students use an online ticketing system prior to the event and check in at the ticketing desk upon arrival. Only current CUNY students are eligible for prizes and the name on your CUNY ID must match the name registered online. The points are totaled following the end of the semester and the winners receive some incredible prizes.

“I felt that I had a very good chance at winning the tuition this year,” said Daniel Weiss. “It was a lot of fun to be up here in the suite to watch the game. After last year almost not making it and finishing in tenth, I secured my way up to second place so I’m very happy.”

The StudentsFirst Program has proven to be a success in its first five years, with increased attendance at a number of the CUNYAC Championships and having representation from all CUNY campuses, not just CUNYAC member schools. The top ten point-getters this year averaged 527 points, making this year’s the highest average yet and besting last year’s average of 474.5 points.  Program participation increased greatly  from last year and we hope to continue increasing program participation for the upcoming 2017-18 season.

The competition has improved every year and with the program continuing to build, it will be more and more important to get to every event you can, so pay attention to cunyathletics.com for information on where to score points.
