CUNYAC/Brine Women’s Soccer Player of the Week
Yanique Newman, CCNY
Forward/Senior/Kingston, Jamaica/Lincoln

Yanique Newman has been named the CUNYAC/Brine Women’s Soccer Player of the Week for the second straight week. Newman was a dominating force this past week in wins over Medgar Evers and York. Against the Cougars on Monday, Newman had four goals and one assist. Facing the Cardinals on Saturday, Newman was part of nearly every score with four goals and three assists. The senior team captain is currently ranked second in the nation in goals per game and points per game.

CUNYAC/Brine Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week

Stephanie Gonzalez has been named the CUNYAC/Brine Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for the week of 9/22-9/28. She earned a pair of shutouts last week as Lehman beat Medgar Evers and Sarah Lawrence. She made three saves on the week. For the season, Gonzalez now has five shutouts to her credit.

CUNYAC/Brine Women’s Soccer Rookie of the Week

Isabelle Lalami has been named the CUNYAC/Brine Women’s Soccer Rookie of the Week for the week of 9/22-9/28. The freshman registered her first career multi-goal game, as the Swedish native recorded both Brooklyn goals in the team’s 2-0 win over CCNY.

Staten Island Dolphins (4-3-1 Overall, 3-0 CUNYAC)

CSI had a light week, only facing off against York College and the win continues their streak of regular season wins against CUNYAC competition which now stands at 21 games since 2010. This week, they face Old Westbury on Tuesday, Sarah Lawrence on Wednesday, and John Jay College as part of CUNYAC play on Saturday.

York Cardinals (1-7 Overall, 1-3 CUNYAC)
Last Week (0-3 Overall, 0-2 CUNYAC)

York had a tough week, losing three matches--two of which were CUNYAC opponents. The Cardinals will hope for a better result this week in their only match on Saturday at Brooklyn College.

John Jay Bloodhounds (1-8 Overall, 0-2 CUNYAC)

The Bloodhounds had two non-conference matches for the week. In their first one, John Jay lost 4-0 to Purchase College. Later that week, the Bloodhounds fell to Manhattanville College, 6-0. John Jay faces the College of Staten Island on Saturday, October 4, at 12pm.

Medgar Evers Cougars (0-8 Overall, 0-3 CUNYAC)

Medgar Evers College Women's Soccer played just a match this week. On Wednesday Sept. 24, the Cougars fell to Lehman College 8-0.

CCNY Beavers (5-2 Overall, 1-1 CUNYAC)
Last Week (2-1 Overall, 0-1 CUNYAC)

The CCNY women's soccer team had a strong week with wins over Medgar Evers and York. Against the Cougars, Yanique Newman had four goals and an assist in the 13-0 win, continuing to dominate the CUNYAC's statistics rankings. Margot Salas had a career high three goals and an assist, while Elif Demircan added two goals. Taylor Jo Gillen set up two scores, and put one in herself. Jackelin Brito, Patricia Martinez and Tatiano Franco each had a goal and an assist. Facing the Cardinals, Yanique Newman scored four goals with three assists while Tatiana Franco finished with one goal and three assists in the 8-0 win.

Brooklyn Bulldogs (3-4 Overall, 2-0 CUNYAC)

The Brooklyn College Women's Soccer team picked up a key CUNYAC win over CCNY this past week. Freshman Isabelle Lalami notched both goals in the 2-0 shutout victory. The Bulldogs will have a pair of games on their schedule this week, as BC takes on FDU-Florham (9/29) and York College (10/4).

Lehman Lightning (6-2-1 Overall, 2-1 CUNYAC)
Last Week (2-0 Overall, 1-0 CUNYAC)

Lehman won a pair of games last week, besting Medgar Evers College, 8-0, and Sarah Lawrence College, 6-0. Freshman Lillian Baretto totaled four goals on the week, while Ana Lopes and Juliana Generoso each had a goal in each game. Freshman keeper Stephanie Gonzalez totaled two shutout wins, bringing her season total to five shutouts.

This week, Lehman will play at Purchase College on Tuesday.
