2012 Men's Tennis All Stars Announced
Baruch's Goren & Laskowski Earn End of Year Awards

Flushing, N.Y – The City University of New York Athletic Conference in partner with the Hospital for Special Surgery have named Guy Goren and Joe Laskowski from Baruch as the 2012 Men’s Tennis Player and Rookie of the Year, respectively. Coach of the Year was also named to Baruch as Florin Giuglescu was voted amongst his fellow coaches in the conference for the honor. Ayman Busat from York was awarded the Sportsmanship Award.

In his first year playing on the Bearcats men’s tennis team, Goren has already achieved the highest level of success in the conference. Playing between the top three spots for Baruch throughout the season, the senior had an undefeated conference record in singles play (CUNYAC 6-0; Overall 11-2). The three-time CUNYAC/HSS Player of the Week was also undefeated in doubles play with a 6-0 record (Overall 10-3).

“I want to truly thank my teammates and my coach for all their support this season;” said Goren. “We have worked hard together and this award is a result of that team effort. I am looking forward to our continued team efforts as we battle to win a CUNYAC Championship.”

Laskowski began the season with a Rookie of the Week honor and did not look back. In his freshman year, he sported an undefeated CUNYAC singles record going 5-0 (Overall 9-2) and doubles record going 5-0 (Overall 10-1). Playing between the 5th and 6th spot, he was a significant factor in Baruch’s successful season.

“I am very honored to receive such a great reward;” said Laskowski. “I am enjoying my first year of college tennis and want to thank my teammates and coaches for all their leadership and assistance this season.”

Leading both of these outstanding players was Coach Giuglescu who earns his third Coach of the Year since returning to the program in 1996. The two-time CUNYAC Champion ended the 2012 regular season with an undefeated conference record of 7-0 (Overall 13-2). With 30 years of experience in tennis, Giuglescu continues to positively influence the student-athletes at Baruch.

“The result of a coach is how the team performs and I am proud of how my team has performed this season,” said Giuglescu. “The coaches are always competing against each other, as everybody wants to win, but I am happy that my peers recognized the hard work that is necessary to be a successful team. A good coach never quits and I always want to do better.”

For the third straight season, Cardinals’ number one singles, Busat, earns the CUNYAC/HSS Sportsmanship Award. His influence on the team has helped keep the spirits high for York’s Men’s Tennis team.

"Ayman is fair and equal of with his treatment of all;” said Coach Greg Jackson. “He's very genuine, respectful and gets along with everyone.  He has a great all-around game and he is truly a great sportsman"
