CUNYAC/Con Edison Men’s Basketball Player of the Week

JORDAN YOUNG, Staten Island

Forward/6-foot-5/Senior/Asbury Park, NY/Wall Township

Jordan Young earns the CUNYAC/Con Edison weekly honors after shooting 63.5% in the Dolphins’ 3-0 week, extending their win streak to seven. Young scored 11 points in the victory over Kean University (Jan. 16) shooting .600 (5-for-6) on the field and 5-for-6 on the free throw line. He also pulled down three boards and swiped three steals on the defensive end. The senior followed this performance registering a double-double in the conference win against CCNY (Jan. 18), with 33 points (15-for-19 FG) and 11 boards. He went on to score 31 points in the win over John Jay (Jan. 21) with his 13-for-25 display on the field along with his 20 rebounds. Young is now currently 9th in CSI’s all-time record in rebounds with 697 and 6th in all time scoring with 1,539.  The Dolphins’ will try and continue their undefeated CUNYAC season facing Lehman January 25.

 

CUNYAC/Con Edison Men’s Basketball Rookie of the Week

BRIAN JOHNSON, Medgar Evers

Forward/6-foot-4/Freshman/Brooklyn, NY/Paul Robeson

Brian Johnson is tabbed as this week’s top rookie following Medgar Evers’ 1-1 week averaging 16 points and 8.5 rebounds per contest, shooting 59.1% in the week. The freshman scored 10 points shooting 50% from the field (5-for-10) and pulling down eight rebounds in the losing effort against Hunter (Jan. 18). The forward followed that performance netting 22 points in the conference victory over CCNY (Jan. 20), shooting 8-for-12 on the field, and 5-for-8 on the free throw line with nine rebounds, two assists and a steal.
