Brooklyn, NY--- Hosting their first CUNYAC cheerleading competition, the Brooklyn College Cheerleading Team accomplished their goal for the season, as they won their fifth consecutive title in front of a standing room only crowd at the West Quad Gymnasium.
"I am extremely proud of the way the team has worked throughout the season and tonight was a culmination of that hard work" said Head Coach Tonika Simmons.
The competition was stiff among the five-team field, as BC finished in the top spot with a score of 256, The College of Staten Island came in 2nd with 226 and Medgar Evers College finished 3rd with 220. Lehman and York Colleges rounded out the field as they scored 201 and 156 respectively.
"It was a thrill to host tonight's event," said Athletic Director Bruce Filosa. "This was a tremendous end to our winter season as our Men's Basketball Team went to the NCAA Tournament, Women's Basketball competed in the ECAC's and now our Cheerleading Team won their fifth straight."
The event was originally scheduled to take place on Thursday, February 25, 2010 and was postponed due to inclement weather.
