In search for their first championship since 2004, 2nd seeded CCNY defeated 7th seeded York College 3-0 (25-7, 25-12, 25-4) in their quarterfinal match at the Nat Holman Gymnasium.
Senior outside hitter, Floriana Garo, led the Beaver offense as she compiled a 0.688 hitting percentage with 12 kills, 1 error in 16 attempts; she also added 2 aces and 5 digs for the match. Sophomore middle hitter, Zuleyka Polanco, and junior middle hitter, Melissa Blass, contributed 7 and 4 kills respectively to their teams’ winning effort. Senior setter, Nicole Cascone, had a solid all around game as she added 3 kills, 7 digs, match high 6 service aces and 22 assits. Junior setter, Jasmine Bermudez, playing libero for the match, would go on to get 6 digs.
For the Cardinals, Pamela Lebron would get 2 kills and 4 digs, while fellow teammate, Cinthia Guerrero, would help in the defensive end with 4 digs. Charlina Gallegos contributed with her service game as she got a team high 2 service aces.
The Beavers, whom are hosting the CUNYAC Championships, will next face 3rd seeded Hunter College in the semifinals on November 6th at 5 PM. The winner of the match will move on to the CUNYAC Finals at 8 PM.
