CUNYAC Baseball Tournament Set to Take Place, May 8-10 at Staten Island

The 2008 City University of New York Athletic Conference Baseball Championships are set to take place this Thursday-Saturday (May 8-10) at the College of Staten Island Baseball Complex. The four-team, double-elimination tournament will get underway Thursday at 4, with fourth-seeded Lehman taking on the top-seeded host Dolphins; at 7 p.m., third-seeded John Jay will square off with second-seeded Mitchell. All games of the tournament can be followed via live stats and audio; information on those features, along with the complete bracket and team information, can be found at our Tournament Central page.

CUNYAC Year-End Softball Winners Announced; Baruch's Pena and Tepfer, Hunter's West and Boz Receive Top Accolades

The City University of New York Athletic Conference announced its year-end softball award winners for the 2008 campaign this week, and the four major award winners were split between conference finalists Baruch and Hunter. The Bearcats' Melissa Pena and Andrea Tepfer were named Player and Rookie of the Year, respectively, while the CUNYAC-champion Hawks saw Allyshia West named Pitcher of the Year and Cagla Boz tabbed as Coach of the Year.

Hunter Captures 12th CUNYAC Softball Title; Tops Baruch in 9 Innings, 5-4

Tournament Most Valuable Player Allyshia West pitched five complete games, and left the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth inning Saturday afternoon at the CSI Softball Complex, as top-seeded Hunter captured its 12th City University of New York Athletic Conference Softball Championships, and earned automatic qualification to the NCAA Division III Softball Championships, with a 5-4 victory in extra innings over third-seeded Baruch. West fired a complete-game eight-hitter, and just one of the runs she allowed was earned.

CUNYAC Selects Four Scholar-Athletes of the Year; Winners to be Honored May 14

As the 2007-08 academic year winds to a close, the City University of New York Athletic Conference has once again taken the opportunity to reflect upon those student-athletes who have excelled on the field, in the classroom and in the community. To that end, CUNYAC Executive Director, Zak Ivkovic is proud to announce four recipients of its 22nd annual Scholar-Athlete of the Year award. Berbelin Jape, a volleyball star at Hostos, and Chinedum Azikiwe, a standout soccer player at Borough of Manhattan, are the recipients of the community college awards. Also, Allyshia West, a two-sport performer (swimming, softball) at Hunter, and Kafui Kouakou, a Most Valuable Player recipient in men's soccer at York, will take home senior college scholar-athlete praise.The four honorees, along with xx honorable-mention selections, will be honored May 14 at the Michael Steuerman Scholar-Athlete Awards Ceremony, held at Baruch College's "Vertical Campus" (One Bernard Baruch Way, 14th Floor, Manhattan), at 6 p.m.
